Documentation for PType V1.00 - YourWare - R.Ruck
<<<--"Does exactly what it says in the docs"-->>>
Disclaimer
==========
I make no promises to the validity, reliablility and integrity of this
software. Use it at your own risk, any damage caused by it is not my fault,
it is yours.
What is it ?
============
PageType or PType is a type replacment that breaks the flow in to pages,
hence the name.
Why ?
=====
Have you ever noticed how irritating it is to use 'type' on a
reasonably big document, and just when you get to the part you want to
check its gone. Sure you can stop the flow with the space, but it can
sometimes be too late, whoops, 'type' it again.
For those of you who use KingCon, you shouldnt have this trouble, because
you can scroll through all of the CLI window with bars. However I have
found that on my system KingCon seems to make the display a little corrupt,
blue and orange bits here and there.
So for those of you that want to simply look through a text file without
using type or a text-editor/viewer seperate from the CLI environment,
simply use ptype.
How ?
=====
Now most users will skip this bit, mainly because ptype's use is plain and
simple. However those of you who do not know their mouse from a rat ;) here
we go.
At the prompt type 'ptype'
1. Workbench:> ptype
Now input the file you want to view.
1. Workbench:> ptype s:startup-sequence
Press <ENTER> and away it goes.
The text should pause at around a pages length and await a return.
Bugs !
======
I don't know of any real bugs, however there is a quirk that should be
known.
Due to the way PType is written it relies on the amount of lines on screen
at once, and unfortunately this poses a small problem. Users that use a big
screen resolution or an unusually small/large font, will find that the text
stops too early or too late.
I am afraid this shows how I've kind of cheated in the programming
department, but rest assured, when/if I write a newer version coding will
be better. In fact I could do it now, rather than use the amount of lines,
the page is stopped when the cursor is a certain distance from the bottom
of the screen.
Should you have any bug reports or suggestions tell them to me via
email(see below).
Me, you know, the author
========================
I inhabit Boston, situated in the picturesque, desolate and boring county
of Lincolnshire, England. At writing I am 18, although by the time I've
pulled my finger out and distributed it, I'll be collecting a pension ;)
I have just completed a BTEC National Diploma In Computing, which after two
years doesnt seem like such a waste of time, well not quite anyway :)
I will be starting my Bachelor of Science in September 97, which although
means a lot of work, it also means access to email(see below for iname) and
the internet.
I would like any other coders to contact me if they wish to converse, swap
code or anything else apparently useful.
Should anyone wish to contact me I can be reached at bobruk@mindless.com,
valid Sep 1997 - July 2000, women especially welcome =).
I occassionally manage to get on IRC, very occassionally though. Should you
wish to search for me, I usually wander around #amiga_warez on GalaxyNet as
^^Bob^. Although if you wish to talk urgently you need to mail me.
